Nordtank

BDCR’s most recent project was to replace an existing non-operational wind turbine (MS4) on Mynydd Glandulas, the hill above the Centre for Alternative Technology, mid-Wales, using finance raised by a further share offer.

£175,500 of shares were made available to individuals. Needless to say we were over-subscribed and had to set a cap on potential shareholding for individuals so that as many people could participate as possible.

Using European funding secured through Mid Wales Energy Agency and ecodyfi, and shareholders investments, we bought a second-hand Nordtank NTK500/37 (500kW) wind turbine. This was installed, as demonstrated in the images, on Mynydd Glandulas in 2008.

Following more delays than we ever thought possible (in large part due to issues with the grid connection), and some anecdotes that would make for a great allegorical tale, we finally got the Nora up and running in 2010, and she has been doing well so far.
